ABOUT
Mary is an Australian contemporary artist based in Sydney working mainly in the landscape and still life genres. Her background is in graphic design, having trained in Sydney & San Francisco before working as a designer for a number of years. Mary took up painting over twelve years ago and since then has been exhibiting in and around Sydney in various group shows and been a finalist in competitions such as Hunters Hill Art Prize, Lane Cove Art Award and Hornsby Art Prize. She also was a member of the Artarmon Artist Studios.
In her current practice Mary works mainly in acrylics, sometimes with an oil glaze & enjoys drawing in charcoal & pastel. She often works from a set up in the studio where she uses different lighting to create mood in her work or en plein air for landscape studies. Her influences are the Impressionists, photography, modern architecture & the American artist Edward Hopper.
